Jordyn James

Jordyn James is the owner and artistic director of Burlesque L’amour and a huge lover of all things dance. In particular, empowerment through dance and celebrating each individual for exactly who they are.

Jordyn's love of dance started when she took her very first dance class at the age of 5, and not long after did she have her eyes and heart set on running her own dance studio. Little did she know where it would take her…..

At age 17, Jordyn started her own business teaching kids dance, but by the age of 19, she found herself immersed in the world of adult dance and burlesque.  After a request to start a burlesque class shortly after the movie ‘Burlesque’ was released, Jordyn began classes in Eumundi at the back of a pub for 12 women who quickly signed up. Those 12 women still dance with her today amongst the other 350 women who make up the Burlesque L’amour family.

The pub eventually closed down, so Jordyn started running classes from her parent’s garage, knowing she had started something for women of the Sunshine Coast that had to be explored and nurtured. So she persisted and eventually came across the perfect studio space in Warana, which today is the Burlesque L’amour Headquarters and operates alongside her five other locations.

In the time Jordyn has been running Burlesque L’amour, she has not only grown the business into a safe, nurturing, empowering, and inspirational space for women to dance and express themselves, but she has also directed and performed in over 16 shows, supported and hosted five charity shows raising over $24,000 in total for these charities, as well as running her DanceFit program for young adults with a disability. All of these achievements stem from Jordyn's core values and life purpose to empower and support women, and she continually gives back to her community year after year.

All of this certainly has not gone unnoticed with Jordyn being a finalist in both Australian of the Year in 2019 and Business Woman of the Year in 2021.

Apart from creating a beautiful safe space for women to express themselves on a weekly basis, Jordyn is incredibly passionate about providing performance opportunities for women of the Sunshine Coast. For Jordyn, seeing women increase their confidence while achieving this goal of dancing on stage under the lights in all their glory, is so powerful and something that makes her so proud each and every show. It is what she believes inspires these incredible women to perform show after show. Jordyn believes everyone, no matter their dance experience, deserves the chance to be on stage in a Burlesque L’amour show.

Jordyn teaches all levels of dance at our Warana and Cooroy Studios.
